FROM LIÈGE TO RIO: THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE OF HENRI SALVADOR DO BRASIL
To launch the 39th season of Les Belges du bout du monde, Adrien Joveneau heads to Brazil to meet two Belgians who have built their lives there: primatologist Laurence Culot and music producer Emmanuel de Ryckel.
Originally from Seraing, Laurence Culot has lived in the state of São Paulo for around fifteen years. A university professor, she is based in Rio Claro. After studying at the University of Liège, she went on to complete a master’s degree in Guinea-Conakry before embarking on a PhD in the Peruvian Amazon.
Yet nothing had initially destined her to settle in Brazil. After securing a research project in Peru, she discovered Brazil and eventually obtained a university position there. Her research examines the impact of human activities on the ecology, behaviour and health of primates. The mother of a young Belgian-Brazilian daughter, Laurence has now found her place in what has long been known as “the country of the future.” #hecliege #hec #rtbf #lesbelgesduboutdumonde #marcosvalle #henrisalvador
Born in Goma, Emmanuel de Ryckel is a graduate of HEC Liège. A transition manager in the pharmaceutical industry, he is also a music producer. Fascinated since childhood by Henri Salvador and his unmistakable laugh, Emmanuel has just completed the album Henri Salvador do Brasil after three years of intensive work.
The album brings together Brazilian and French artists in a celebration of the work of the celebrated singer and legendary charmer. Emmanuel first discovered Rio twenty-five years ago and immediately fell in love with Brazilian music. A citizen of the world by instinct, he has always had travel in his blood. He fell head over heels for Brazil when he first arrived in the country for a professional project.
Every Sunday, Adrien Joveneau takes listeners to the four corners of the world to meet his guests from abroad. This environmentally conscious radio journey airs on La Première at 9 a.m. and is also available as a podcast on RTBF Auvio and all major podcast platforms.
TELESTAR 03/08/26 – A SOPHISTICATED AND SUPERB ALBUM.

Henri Salvador – Henri Salvador do Brasil Universal
As we know, Henri Salvador was not the inventor of bossa nova, but he was one of the craftsmen who shaped its brilliance. In this album, supervised by Marcos Valle, major Brazilian artists reinterpret Salvador’s songs.
Our opinion The arrangements are stunning. Among the eleven reinterpretations is “Une chanson douce,” performed by Bebel Gilberto. A sophisticated and superb album.

HENRI SALVADOR DO BRASIL :”WHEN A RECORD BECOMES AN ALBUM AGAIN” –
Some albums we simply listen to; others we inhabit. Hearing Henri Salvador do Brasil on vinyl, DJ Memê rediscovered a ritual that streaming has almost erased: placing the record on the turntable, being drawn in by the opening track, listening to the first side all the way through, turning the record over and continuing the journey without interruption.
One complete listen. Then a second. And then a third. Three times in a row.
In the enthusiastic message he sent to his friend Marcos Valle, the renowned Rio-born DJ and producer praised more than the quality of the performances and production. Above all, he celebrated the return of something that has become increasingly rare: a genuine album, conceived as a whole, with its own rhythm, colours and narrative — a record where every song seems naturally to lead into the next.
Coming from DJ Memê, a pioneering remixer and a major figure in Brazilian house music, accustomed to identifying within a few bars what makes a song’s heart beat, such praise carries particular weight. Henri Salvador do Brasil restored his pleasure in immersive listening: forgetting playlists, skipping nothing and, upon reaching the final groove, wanting only one thing — to play the record again from the beginning. #djmeme #marcosvalle #henrisalvador
