SILVA & QUARTETO DO RIO

A singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Vitória, Espírito Santo, SILVA is one of the leading figures of Brazil’s new musical generation. Classically trained as a violinist, he has developed an elegant musical universe combining MPB, pop and contemporary sounds. His gentle, distinctive voice brings a deeply personal sensitivity to “Pauvre Jésus-Christ.”

Alongside him, Quarteto do Rio keeps Brazil’s great vocal-harmony tradition alive as a direct successor to the legendary group Os Cariocas. For this recording, the quartet consisted of Eloi Vicente on guitar and vocals, Leandro Freixo on piano and vocals, Neil Teixeira on bass and vocals, and Hernane Castro on drums and vocals.

Their sophisticated harmonies, drawing on bossa nova, samba and MPB, blend naturally with SILVA’s voice, giving this unexpected Henri Salvador song a profoundly Brazilian character.

This performance now carries a particularly poignant significance: “Pauvre Jésus-Christ” was Neil Teixeira’s final recording. The singer, bassist and arranger of Quarteto do Rio passed away on May 21, 2025. The track therefore stands as one of the last recorded testimonies to his talent and to the musical elegance to which he devoted his career.
